You can check out this interview with Sony's Ray Maguire by following this link. There's a lot of talk about Gran Turismo and some talk about the state of racing games that's pretty interesting. Then he drops this little gem towards the end:
"Appealing to a potentially smaller market at a lower price is a great strategy..."
Seems kinda silly since that smaller audience outnumber his nearly 3 to 1 on the console side of things, and the handheld wars have been over for a couple of years now.
Now, he does have the qualifier "potentially" in there, so he's got a life line. But let's face it, the hardware war is just about over. Claiming Nintendo went after the smaller market is just retarded. Sony and Microsoft made no bones that they went after the core gamers this generation (we're a rare breed, us core gamers), and now are try to reach out to Nintendo's broader audience with Move and Natal. Saying Nintendo went after a smaller audience while simultaneously trying to get in on it seems like moronic business tactics.
So you pick, Ray: are you a retard or a moron?
I'm about 8 stars away from going after the next 120 as Luigi. Looking forward to it.
And later tonight I'll be putting up a new feature that looks back on games of the previous generation. First one up is Kingdom Hearts. It's pretty much just me and Wes chatting about, so it'll be an easy read. UPDATE: Cheap Thrills is now up on the site.
And one more thing, Andy's birthday party has been moved to today.
